Update.

I haven't posted anything in a long while. My time has been fractioned in a different way and I end up being too exhausted to ramble on here. Not really a good excuse, so here's an update.

Some new and exciting things have happened within the last few months. I started working part time for an artist publicity company and learning the tricks to the trade, combining my knowledge of PR and the music industry. I'm loving it. I drive back and forth between San Marcos and Austin half of my week for work, shows, events and friends; and it's really wearing me down. I graduate from grad school in December and will move to Austin at that point. I.am.so.excited. I'm really just anxious, because there are so many things to come within the next few months and after I graduate. I can't even sit still when I imagine the time when I can focus on work and not have to worry about classes, research papers, studying, journal articles, reading, reading, reading about semi-interesting things on multiple subjects...it will be over soon.

So here is my attempt to continue my blog posts. Until the next, here is the song that I am currently obsessed with by Blood Red Shoes.

Happy birthday, John Cusack.

Happy birthday to one of my 'Top 5' favorite male actors, John Cusack. One of my favorite boys on the big screen. The boy I fell for at such a young age and have always modeled the perfect boyfriend after. The man who has had some shotty films but still remains to be charming as ever. The guy who wears his jeans messily tucked into his loosely tied boots and always sits with his legs far apart to think. To his bedroom eyes and endearing grin. To his ongoing stares that never and always show his mind continuously working and thinking. His hopelessly in love looks he gives to the girl he is always chasing. His flawless mix tape formula. His perfect hair and one-of-a-kind persona. Happy birthday to the man of my dreams, John Cusack.

How Hipsters Break Up

I came across How Hipsters Date today and scanned through the blog entries and photos of hipster girls and hipster talk. I got a kick out of the texts titled, "How Hipsters Break Up" and have posted a few that were the best. It's really sad how much we rely on digital technology to communicate with each other, which is breaking down the importance of face-to-face communication. That's a topic for another day, but check these out...really pathetic and really funny.

Summer Reading

I used to enjoy reading and decided to set a summer reading goal for myself. Since I have become engrossed in technology and the Internet, my attention span and patience have shortened, and I would like to take time to read this summer. These are a few books I have chosen, along with a few reviews from Amazon.

Inspirational

Blink is about the first two seconds of looking--the decisive glance that knows in an instant. He persuades readers to think small and focus on the meaning of "thin slices" of behavior. Gladwell includes caveats about leaping to conclusions: marketers can manipulate our first impressions, high arousal moments make us "mind blind," focusing on the wrong cue leaves us vulnerable to "the Warren Harding Effect" (i.e., voting for a handsome but hapless president).

Fun

Little Women and Werewolves is Louisa May Alcott’s first draft—before her editor sunk his teeth into it. Now the original text has at last been exhumed. In this uncensored version, the March girls learn some biting lessons, transforming from wild girls into little women—just as their friends and neighbors transform into vicious, bloodthirsty werewolves!

Suggested by a Friend

Water for Elephants is the story of a man's life with the circus. Sara Gruen spares no detail in chronicling the squalid, filthy, brutish circumstances in which he finds himself. The animals are mangy, underfed or fed rotten food, and abused. Jacob, once it becomes known that he has veterinary skills, is put in charge of the "menagerie" and all its ills. Uncle Al, the circus impresario, is a self-serving, venal creep who slaps people around because he can. Jacob is the only person in the book who has a handle on a moral compass and as his reward he spends most of the novel beaten, broken, concussed, bleeding, swollen and hungover.

Behind the EP with Quiet Company

It's been nearly a year since I have become a fan and friend of the talented Austin musicians known as Quiet Company. After seeing their intense live performance multiple times, my love and support of their music has grown and continues to do so. The remarkable production team known as Digital Shakedown shot their "On Mondern Men" music video awhile back, and has recently shot some behind the scene takes leading up to their new EP release. 'Songs for Staying In' will be released May 11th, and I cannot wait. They will be celebrating with a huge release show May 7th called "MASSIVE RELEASE" along with four other great bands. After getting to know the band members and their awesome manager, I love introducing people to their music and addictive sound. These videos let you to see how truly genuine these guys are, and allow you to gain a little insight into the inspiration behind their new EP.
